On October 7, 2017, Massa Products Corporation was a proud contributor in the commissioning of the USS Washington SSN787 at Naval Station Norfolk. The USS Washington is the most recently launched fast attack Virginia-Class nuclear submarine in the U.S. Navy fleet. The boat features Massa Sonar Transducer Technology – because the utmost performance capabilities, reliability, and advanced transducer design are essential for the boats underwater guidance and detection systems.
The Washington is the fourth naval vessel named after the 42nd State to join the union. Prior boats included an armored cruiser and two battleships featuring 16 inch guns. SSN787 armaments include Tomahawk cruise missiles and MK48 ADCAP torpedoes. The Washington is capable of more than 25 knots and carries a crew of 132 in support of special operations, anti-submarine surveillance, and support of land-based operations.
